FESTIVAL IN HONOR OF SAN DONATO

6-7-8 August - Rione Castello , Piazza Carlo Coletti, Piazza Libertà

The origins of the feast are lost in the Middle Ages (eighth century AD), when this territory belonged to the Longobardo Duchy of Spoleto. San Donato is celebrated with a solemn procession, musical performances and fireworks. The night between 6 and 7 August you can celebrate with "Sant 'D'nat' miè": music, poetry and traditions until the first light of dawn.

PALLIO DE LA LOTTA

Old Town, last Saturday in August

The "pallio" was born from the "passion" of Sandonatesi for the art of war. In the evening, the charming squares in the old town come back to life thanks to the exhibition by flag-wavers and characters in period costume. The competitions, organised by CONI see eight professional wrestlers combined with one of the eight historic “rioni” or districts of San Donato. At the end of the fighting, popular games from the late nineteenth century are played.

FESTIVAL IN HONOR OF SANTA COSTANZA

Last Sunday in August- Piazza G. Quadrari, Piazza C. Coletti

Saint Costanza, the first martyr of Christian persecution, is celebrated mainly by young people and unmarried girls (known as "cipolle" or onions) with costumed re-enactment, popular games, a night vigil, fireworks, musical concerts and a solemn procession where the saint is carried in triumph by twelve pages in eighteenth century costume. Along the way, comedians and acrobats also in eighteenth century costume, enliven the day. In some old wine cellars you can taste the historic menu of the feast… strictly based on onions: cipollata, a stew with onions, mixed salad, sponge cake and wine.

FESTA CONTADINA

San Fedele, the second Sunday of September

If you wish to retrace some moments from the paths of the "ancient" country people, observing their difficulties and their daily lives, this festival takes place in San Fedele, a locality that has been famous since ancient times for its fountain and polygonal walls. The show is organised by countrymen and women who intervene directly with traditional songs, dances and the tasting of dishes that are typical in San Donato. Entertainment and culture are the watchwords.
