“…There was a great silence that came up from a valley below where sometimes the tinkling bell accompanying a flock of sheep could be heard, but this was only a sound and not a noise that disturbed: a sound which made the place seem even calmer, steeped as it was in an even deeper silence…”
From the novel "La Ciociara " by Alberto Moravia.
Our Bed & Breakfast, nestling on the slopes of the Abruzzo National Park at 700 metres altitude, overlooks the Valle di Comino, an ancient territory settled by the pre-Roman Samnite people, which is famous for its salutary climate, cool in summer and crisply bracing in winter. An unspoilt valley, with its green slopes still burgeoning with life, it is crowned by mountains covered in dense woods, and dominated by a huge sky which at night blazes with stars. Along the paths that lead to the medieval village of San Donato, 3 km away, roam flocks of sheep while hawks, hoopoes and myriads of other birds fly overhead. At night, porcupines, badgers, foxes, deer emerge in front of the quiet watcher, and even the occasional tranquil Marsican bear can be seen. In summer, the woods shimmer with the magical dance of fireflies which illuminate the shadows. The peace and harmony of this valley are reflected in the cordial nature of the population.
Twenty years ago, Vincenzo and Bleu, having decided to leave the city, arrived in this Ciociaran valley with the idea of becoming beekeepers. They immediately fell in love with the atmosphere of the place and purchased the Casale Pedicone, an old stone farmhouse which, over the years, they have fully renovated in compliance with local traditions. Surrounded by vast meadows shaded by olive and fruit trees, the house has been chosen as the location for several films on the history and culture of Ciociaria and this area in particular: "The wedding of the Samnites" and "41st Parallel: Viaggio nell'identità."
Today, our beekeeping days now a distant memory, we have opened a Bed & Breakfast: Vincenzo and Bleu’s B & B which is located on the ground floor of the farmhouse, the oldest part of the house, with spacious airy bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and large spaces both inside and out where visitors can relax while enjoying the company of others, or drift away into the meadows for refreshing moments of solitude. The atmosphere is ideal for parties, special events and group activities. On request, we can offer full immersion courses in Italian; seminars on breathing, movement and relaxation; activities of choral creative expression for children and adults; or guided excursions into the surrounding hills and mountains.
