HANG-GLIDING AND PARAPENDIO

Access to flights is at Three Bridges near San Donato Val di Comino, at an altitude of 1100 meters, where there are wind socks and a runway platform for takeoff. San Donato offers particularly propitious conditions for flying, thanks to its orographic situation, the mountains with their enclosing walls, and the considerable size of the valley. If you add to this the delight of dry northerly winds, then you can fly even above 3000 meters in altitude. The landing is on the Campo Guerrano plain at 420 meters. The quality of flight conditions permits several prestigious international competitions to be organised.

A gym and golf school in San Donato with a 9-hole pitch and putt. A challenging course due to its greens well-protected by bunkers and mounds typical of Scottish golf courses: there are five lakes that beautify the environment but make life miserable for less experienced golfers.

The Titilla pool, wedged between the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park, offers its guests a pleasant space, rich in colour where you can feel free from indiscreet eyes. Lounging in deckchairs you can sunbathe with a view of the mountains and enjoy the pool and the pleasure of quiet summer days in the countryside.
Near San Donato there are other sports facilities with swimming pools (covered and heated in winter) tennis courts, gym ... etc as well as an acquapark recommended above all for children.

Riserva Naturale Regionale Lago di Posta Fibreno

This nature reserve is located at the foot of the village of Posta Fibreno, Surrounded by reeds where wild acquatic birds nest, the lake, with its bizarre zig zag shape, gradually extends into a river, offering a postcard-pretty landscape framed by hills. The water maintains its temperature at 11 ° C., both summer and winter, A unique feature of the lake is a small floating island, formed by a species of algae, which was long ago described by the Roman poet, Pliny. Near the lake you can see the nàue, charming wooden boats of Samnite origin which are still used by farmers in the area. The lake is an ecosystem in which birds, fish, reptiles and mammals live in harmony with man. Pedal boats for rent. Canoeing. Scubadiving.


FORCA D'ACERO

Forca d’Acero is located in the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, just beyond the pass which links the regions of Lazio and Abruzzo, half an hour’s drive up the mountain from San Donato. The area forms a broad plateau surrounded by forests and secular beech trees. Its perfect position makes it an interesting starting point for gentle walks or more demanding hikes in the area and it is a wonderfully cool place to relax away from the summer heat. In winter, Forca d'Acero is a reference point for cross-country skiing excursions across the plains: on these snowy slopes you can follow in the footsteps of wolves, and bears, through unspoiled woods. Cross country track: 4 to 12 km.
For more experienced skiers, there is the possibility of exciting alpine skiing excursions, such as the track from Forca d'Acero to Serra delle Gravare, which in just over three hours covers a difference in altitude of about 700 metres.

Surrounded by the imposing Apennine mountains which alternate with deep valleys crossed by many rivers, the park offers a harmonious merger of cultivated areas and natural vegetation. In the plains there are olive groves and vineyards, whereas at a higher altitude, there are many oaks, beeches and mixed forests. The fauna of these areas includes wolf, deer, chamois d'Abruzzo, the Marsican bear and the golden eagle as well as numerous other birds of prey. The park offers numerous programs and activities for all ages and all levels. Visitors can take advantage of the many roads and trails closed to motorized traffic to walk through natural environments.
In the park, there is also a man-made lake at Villetta Barrea where one can swim or sail in natural surroundings as well as numerous villages and larger centres to be visited: Opi, Pescasseroli (downhill skiing in winter), Scanno.
